Schedule and future Developments
Dubai metro project started in August 2005 with red
line in Jebel Ali runs about 52 km long underground in the centre of the city
and, the red line covers 10 stations in the first section and it was open at
9:09:09 PM on 9 September 2009, in April 2010 they complete the rest 19
stations, second line belted from July 2006 to March and opened in 9 September
2011. In future there will be two lines purple and line blue, blue and purple
lines original proposed completion date by 2012.
Future developments:
Extension of lines:
RTA plans to extend the red line From Jebel Ali free
zone to Dubai-Abu Dhabi border by 12 Km. RTA also considering the extension of
the red line from Jebel Ali to the under construction Jebel Ali airport, but
it’s still on planning. Green line also approved and extended by about 4.9 Km.
Car parking for rail users:
‘Car parking facility will be approved to metro users
on the concept of "park
and ride". There will be two major parking lots on
red line- one at Rashidiya station for 3000 cars and at Jumairah Islands
Station for another 3000 cars. The biggest parking lot will be built at Al
Qusais Station with a capacity of 6000 cars. It will cater to users coming from
Sharjah. There will be small parking spaces at each station while each station
will be linked to other mode of transportation, including taxis, buses and at
some stations water transportation’ (Mohamed Ali.P, 31-12-2010).
Adjust bus and taxi station:
The RTA is planning to have an integrated transport
system so metro stations will have taxis, bus stations and water transport
links at station near the creek and all of them will connect with smart card
that allows passengers to travel on metro, buses and water transport and its
easier find the parking areas.
Power distribution
The power distribution is placed under the
construction and it will have two third rail collections system powered lines
that will run underground in the city centre and on elevated viaducts elsewhere
on double tracks.
The power is distributed from the ground to the viaduct which delivers the power to the train. The
power is less concerned in the project of metro Dubai because the power will
cost too much money that will affect the project progress for the other lines
like purple and blue.
But there was a very good idea for reducing the use
of power in metro Dubai which was building the stations that enters sun into
the station. In addition, the brakes system of the train is a big power
distributor for air conditioning inside the station and it is distributed whenever
the train is going to stop. This is a solution for the reduction of money
payments of electricity and will help save more money to continue the progress
of the metro Dubai project.
